The founder is a stylist who trained at the Ouidad Academy in New York and is Ouidad certified. The founder also learned the Diametrix cutting technique while working at the Greenwich location of Christo Fifth Avenue. Before 2022 the founder spent nearly 20 years at the Stoneham salon, and from that year worked biweekly at Christo Fifth Avenue and its Greenwich location. After that Greenwich location closed, the founder went independent and now works at Greenwich Beauty Lounge. The salon describes the founder as having more than 25 years in the hair industry and over two decades refining textured-hair techniques, and says the founder holds a trademark for the Got Curls cutting method and has been called Curl Queen. Prices are not quoted by phone; they are given at a consultation once the hair has been assessed. A first-time consultation lasts about 10 minutes, and if the stylist and client are a good fit the haircut can be done at the same visit. A first appointment with consultation and cut usually takes about 1 to 2 hours. For color services, the color is rinsed out rather than shampooed, and corrective color asks clients to arrive with clean, product-free hair.
Appointments are secured with a credit card on file. At least 24 hours' notice is requested for cancellations or changes. Appointments canceled with less notice, and no-shows without a call or text, are charged the full price of the service, and a no-call, no-text, no-show consultation carries a $50 fee. A one-week window allows a return for an adjustment to a recent service. Greenwich is open Friday through Sunday, and Stoneham is open Monday through Sunday on varying hours.
Each visit begins with an individual assessment of curl pattern, density and porosity. The salon works with a curated selection of professional products made for curly hair.
