Crystal has worked in the city for nearly two decades. She graduated from Paul Mitchell NYC, managed salons before going independent, and co-owned Haute Air. She worked at Red Market Salon from 2011 to 2018 and sees clients there now.

Every visit starts with a personalized consultation covering lifestyle, hair goals, how much maintenance a client wants and long-term hair health. Corrective work such as color correction and corrective cutting is tailored to the condition and history of the hair, and it often takes several sessions.

Education runs through the whole experience, with guidance on hair health, at-home routines, styling habits and product recommendations. The business publishes Hair Explained, a blog about hair health written by Crystal. Results can depend on color history, hair condition, home care and long-term goals, and factors such as box dye, medications, hard water, extensions, hormonal changes and home products can affect color. Hair health comes before over-processing or unrealistic expectations.

Bridal hair is a specialty, shown on a dedicated NYC Brides page. A bridal consultation takes 2.5 hours. Crystal also takes seasonal appointments in Miami, California and The Hamptons.
