Studio Chai works out of a private studio inside Metro Salon Suites at 2024 W Irving Park Rd in Chicago. It is open Wednesday to Friday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM, and closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The studio describes itself as free of judgement and the usual expectations of traditional hair salons.

A visit starts with a $10 consultation that lasts 20 minutes, and a consultation is required before any color correction. Clients can also opt into Chill Mode, which keeps conversation to a minimum once the consultation is done. The room is calm and quiet, with soft background music, no strong smells, gentle lighting and an unhurried pace. Pets are welcome, though the studio is small and appointments can get messy.

Haircuts start at $90. The Signature Haircut, from $115, is a personalized cut for most clients, shaped to texture and daily routine and including a wash and style. The Extended Haircut, from $135, gives extra time to tight curls or thick hair. Frequent Care Haircuts and Mini Trims are also offered. A Blowdry starting at $70 takes 45 minutes or more and includes a wash and style, with blowout, loose waves or diffused natural texture; updos are not offered.

Color services start at $150 and include all-over color, color transformation, root touch-ups and add-on root touch-ups, gloss, partial lightening, full lightening and express lightening. Color is mixed with COLOR.ME by KEVIN.MURPHY, which is ammonia free, PPD free and honey based. Buy Now, Pay Later is available for bookings from $50 to $4,000, with approval needed before the appointment.
