Shear Genius is owned and operated by Ken Lucido, who has over 20 years of experience in hair. Before selling it, he owned his own salon in the Richmond area for more than 16 years.

The salon says its work rests on professionalism, respect and honesty toward both staff and clients. It aims to learn each client's goals and personality and to offer a comfortable visit regardless of cultural background or how a client identifies. Training and continuing education are a priority, and the salon says all of its artist training follows top-in-industry education and techniques.

Services fall into three groups: Cuts & Styling, Coloring and Hair Treatments. Every service includes a shampoo and blow dry. Most stylists take online bookings, and clients can ask the salon about a particular stylist.

The salon is open Tuesday through Thursday from 10am to 7pm and is closed Monday and Sunday. Clients are asked to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early and to call if they are running late, since appointments are rescheduled when a client is more than 15 minutes late. Cancellations and reschedules need at least 24 hours' notice, with some exceptions. Services over $250 require a deposit.

Work is built on professionalism, respect and honesty, with a focus on listening to each client's goals and personality and on ongoing artist education.
