Salon Femia

Salon Femia opened in 1996 as a salon run by two sisters. After one of them retired, a mother-and-daughter team kept it running, and Ornella is its owner and co-founder today. The salon serves clients from Somerville, Cambridge and the wider Boston area.

The salon welcomes men, women and children and describes itself as family-friendly. Haircuts and styling are offered for every hair type, from thick and curly to thin and straight. Retexturizing chemical treatments can smooth frizz or add texture, and hair color ranges from root touch-ups to full highlights. Facial waxing covers brows and facial shaping, using products chosen to be gentle on the skin.

Color services use Wella products, and the salon also uses Aveda hair color and styling products, which it describes as natural and eco-friendly. Changes should be made at least 24 hours ahead, and appointments canceled within 24 hours or no-shows carry a 50% cancellation fee. Gift cards come in $50, $100, $150 and $200 amounts or a custom value. The salon is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Parking is metered on the street out front, with public lots on Buena Vista and Herbert Street and others a short walk away.
