The salon is built around the idea that a haircut should be enjoyable and easy to remember for a child. It describes a visit as more of an outing than a quick trim, and calls itself sensory friendly. It welcomes children of all ages and says it does not consider any request too big or too small.

During a visit, children sit in vehicle-themed styling chairs and can watch a movie while they get their haircut. Treats such as lollipops and animal crackers are available, along with TV and video games. After each haircut, a child picks a treasure from a treasure chest. The space has whimsical paintings and a wooden train table to play at.

Themed packages cover first haircuts, birthdays, princess and pirate looks, and birthday parties are offered. A retail section sells hair accessories, gifts and other items.

Walk-ins are welcome when there is availability, or clients can book through the Pigtails & Crewcuts app. Online booking on the booking page is limited to certain email domains. Package contents and accessories vary by location, so clients are asked to call for details. Store hours are 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, and the salon is closed on Sundays.

The salon's approach centres on making haircuts fun and memorable for children, using child-safe hair products throughout.

Vehicle-themed chairs, whimsical paintings and a wooden train table give the space a playful, child-centred feel.
