The salon traces its start to a partnership between its owners, Matos and Espinel, which began about 30 years ago on 2nd Street at the corner of 2nd and Fairmount Avenue. The name ME on 2ND, also written MEon2ND, uses the initials of the owners' last names.

The salon describes its space as beautiful and professional, and clients can relax with a drink during their visit. Stylists mix custom colors for each client, from natural shades to pastel tones, and finish with a cut and style. When a client wants a look they cannot yet achieve, stylists can work out a plan together, and they offer advice on keeping hair healthy.

Color is a major focus. The signature Baly-Weave balayage blends color closer to the roots without defined regrowth lines. Color correction is available for unwanted, uneven or damaged color after a detailed consultation, and other color techniques can be requested.

Booking notes: a $50 deposit is required for color, lighteners, keratin, perms and special occasion services. It is refunded if the appointment is cancelled at least 48 hours ahead, and otherwise applied to the service. Adding a treatment to any service takes $10 off. Prices are starting points and can change with length and fullness. Haircut prices include a wash, blowout and men's brow trimming, while color services include a consultation and a massage wash or conditioner but not a blowout. A free line clean-up cut is offered between appointments, and the salon also rents chairs to stylists who want to work with their own clients.
