Lashes by Shigeru

The original Lashes by Shigeru salon opened in Beverly Hills in 2014. Its founder, Shigeru Hanai, had spent a decade as a master hairstylist and owned salons in Tokyo and New York before moving to Los Angeles to found the business. The Los Angeles location is a 2,600 square foot suite with eight private treatment rooms, which the salon describes as spa-like. Reserved garage parking is free for clients.

Every set starts with a consultation, where the technician chooses the length, curl and shape to suit each client's eyes and natural lash health. Clients sit in custom ergonomic chairs that move into a range of positions, and a gel pad protects the lower lashes during application. The salon describes the application as relaxing enough that many clients fall asleep during it.

The salon's own Japanese AirLash line, including its extensions, adhesives and growth serums, is developed and imported from Japan. Each extension is applied one at a time to a single natural lash, using customized lash mapping and a combination of individual and Japanese feathering volume techniques. The fibers are described as hypoallergenic and the adhesive as medical grade. Japanese AirLash fills up to 3 weeks cost $79 to $89, fills up to 4 weeks cost $89 to $99, and fills after 4 weeks and full sets cost $129 to $159. Senior Technician pricing is $79, $89 and $129 for those services. Prices are calculated from the date of the last service at the salon.

Appointments can be booked by text, by phone at (424) 333-1661, or through the online booking system, and a valid credit card is required at booking. Arriving 15 minutes after the appointment time counts as a no-show and is charged in full, and late arrivals may have their session shortened without a reduction in the charge. Changes made at least 24 hours ahead are free of charge, while changes inside that window are charged for each service booked. The salon runs on consistent hourly appointments and says clients rarely wait more than 5 minutes. If the salon runs late, it notifies clients at least one hour before the appointment. Companions, including children, are not allowed in the service room, and clients are asked to arrive without eye makeup or mascara.

Aftercare guidance includes avoiding water on the eyes for the first 24 hours, skipping exercise for a day because sweat can weaken the adhesive, using only water-based, oil-free products around the eyes, and sleeping on the back. The salon notes that the FDA does not regulate or approve lash extensions or their adhesive, and that California requires a licensed esthetician or cosmetologist to perform lash extension services.
