Dr. David Smart

Dr. David Smart is a board-certified dermatologic surgeon and lipedema liposuction surgeon at The Roxbury Institute in Salt Lake City. There he performs lipedema surgery with Dr. David Amron and works within the Advanced Lipedema Treatment program. He is adjunct faculty at the University of Utah School of Medicine, where he previously directed the cosmetic dermatologic surgery program. He was the first dermatologic surgeon at the university to perform liposuction, helped build its tumescent liposuction offerings in the dermatology department, and was the first in Utah to use Renuvion J-Plasma technology.

His training includes a fellowship in lipedema liposuction surgery with Dr. Amron, an aesthetic and surgical dermatology fellowship at the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in New York, and a degree from Brigham Young University completed with honors. His practice covers advanced liposuction, body contouring, liposculpture, revision liposuction, cosmetic liposculpture and complex case management, along with lipedema reduction surgery. He also works on clinical research and trials, research and protocol development, and dermatologic surgery.

He has been a keynote presenter at the Lipedema World Congress in Rome in 2025, the Fat Disorders Research Society Conference in Atlanta in 2024, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Annual Meeting in California in 2024. He was featured in a 2023 Wall Street Journal expert analysis on lipedema and in 2020 Los Angeles Times coverage of new lipedema surgical techniques. He is co-author of, or listed on, a 2023 book on liposculpture and lipedema surgery, which the institute calls an Amazon best seller. He treats lipedema patients in Utah. The institute describes him as a distinguished board-certified dermatologic surgeon and says his care addresses overall well-being as well as physical condition.
