David Smart

David Smart is a board-certified dermatologic surgeon and lipedema liposuction surgeon at The Roxbury Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he treats lipedema patients through the Advanced Lipedema Treatment program. He is also adjunct faculty at the University of Utah School of Medicine.

After his fellowship, he joined the University of Utah as director of its cosmetic dermatologic surgery program. There he brought liposuction into the dermatology department, becoming the first dermatologic surgeon there to perform the procedure, and he introduced tumescent liposuction offerings. He was the first in Utah to use Renuvion J-Plasma technology. His areas of expertise include lipedema diagnosis and treatment, advanced liposuction, body contouring surgery, revision liposuction, tumescent liposuction, cosmetic liposculpture, dermatologic surgery, complex case management, and research and protocol development.

He graduated with honors from Brigham Young University and completed an aesthetic and surgical dermatology fellowship at the Center for Laser and Cosmetic Surgery in New York. More recently, he completed an extensive fellowship with David Amron in lipedema liposuction surgery at the Roxbury Institute. He has given keynote presentations at the Lipedema World Congress in 2025, the Fat Disorders Research Society Conference in 2024 and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Annual Meeting in 2024.
