About

Dr. Cooley is a hair restoration physician at Cooley Hair Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he has worked in surgical hair restoration for more than 25 years. His surgical procedures include FUE and FUT transplants, scalp reduction and CVG repair. At the first visit he gauges the level of CVG and then drafts a plan suited to the individual patient. He began offering PRP in 2008 and has roughly 15 years of experience with injection treatments for thinning hair. In 2010 he began combining PRP with ACell, a combination he offered for about ten years. In 2019 he started using stem cell derived exosomes, which he now recommends to most of his patients, and in 2023 he began pairing exosome injections with the Alma DUO device. He earned his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Wheaton College in Illinois, then attended the UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine, interned at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, and completed a dermatology residency at the University of Maryland, where he was chief resident. He is a board-certified dermatologist certified by the American Board of Dermatology, a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and a Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Earlier he served as head United States consultant for Intercytex, a British biotech company running clinical trials toward a hair cloning treatment, and he has spent many years on hair cloning research, now with its successor, HairClone. He has directly contributed to research on PRP for hair loss, has written peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters on hair restoration, stem cell treatments and follicle cloning, and lectures often at hair transplantation conferences. He is one of the early surgeons accredited by Hair Transplant Mentor, was the first accepted IAHRS member in the Carolinas, and is endorsed by the American Hair Loss Association. He received the ISHRS Platinum Follicle Award in 2008 for scientific contributions to hair restoration.
