A visit usually starts with a consultation, where the stylist listens to what you want and what suits your hair and lifestyle. You can bring inspiration photos or videos. Every haircut and blowout begins with a scalp massage and a stress-relieving shampoo, and hand and scalp massage is part of all hair services. Aveda Rituals can include Aveda Comforting Tea, a warm aromatic towel, a scalp, neck and shoulder massage, a hand massage, and optionally a makeup finish or a Pure-Fume application. Each visit closes with a styling lesson and follow-up from the team. New clients receive a new client form when they book. Most color appointments run 1.5 to 2.5 hours, most treatments 30 minutes to an hour, and most other appointments 1 to 2 hours.

Stylists are grouped into levels from New Artist to Master Specialist, and the level affects pricing. The salon says stylists go through Aveda's interview process to confirm their training and technique, and that continuing education is a stated priority. All stylists hold a California Cosmetology License, according to the salon. Listed prices are starting points. The final cost is set at the consultation and depends on time since the last service, hair length and thickness, and the result you want.

The salons use Aveda's own treatment lines, including Botanical Repair, Nutriplenish hydration, Scalp Solutions, and hard water and mineral removal, along with Invati, which the salon describes as intended to reduce hair loss and promote thicker-looking hair. A Willo Scalp Camera magnifies the scalp 600 percent to look at scalp health, hair density and pores. The salon says Botanical Repair received 2021 ELLE and Marie Claire beauty awards and that in its consumer testing, 92 percent of women said their hair looked healthier and less damaged right away. These are the salon's own claims.

Hand-tied extensions are a specialty. Willo is certified in the Grace Hand Tied Method. Installation takes about three hours and uses 100 percent human extension hair, custom color, a blending cut and a take-home kit. According to the salon, the initial appointment averages $800 to $1,800 or more, and pricing is set at consultation. A pre-consultation form is required, and a move-up is suggested every four to eight weeks.

Each location gives gift cards to charities and events it chooses to support, and the company donates to groups focused on education, the environment and children. Donation requests can be made through a local salon manager or by email to aveda@willosalons.com.

Uses naturally derived, vegan and cruelty-free Aveda products, recommended and customized to each client's hair needs, with an emphasis on training and continuing education for the team.
