Village Parlor

Village Parlor operates as a collective with locations in Detroit and New York City. The business began more than six years before its website was written, while the owner was still working full time in New York City. The salon describes itself as a destination for people across Michigan and says it aims to raise the bar for beauty in the Midwest.

The menu includes esthetics, makeup application, waxing and skincare. Brow services are a notable part of the offering: brow wax with shaping by wax or tweezing and trimming ($35), brow tint without shaping ($25), Parlor Brow tint and shaping, which combines shaping with tint ($50), brow lamination with tint, which restyles brow hair for a lifted, fuller look and lasts five to eight weeks with at-home aftercare ($85), and henna brow, a plant-based brow tint stain that lasts up to three weeks with aftercare ($65). Henna brow is not recommended for people with oily or flaky skin, people who spray or self tan, or people who use exfoliating facial products. Clients can also buy R&Co products and gift cards through the website.

The Detroit location is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 6:00 and is closed Sunday and Monday. Parking is available on the side of the building and on the street along Kercheval. Some stylists operate individually within the salon and set their own policies, which clients can ask about through the stylist's social media links. Services must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the appointment to avoid a cancellation fee of a minimum of $50 per service booked. If an online booking needs to change, any price difference is applied to the booking. Tips are welcome in cash, Venmo, Zelle or Cash App, but gratuities are not added to credit card payments. Dogs and children under 10 are not encouraged to come along to appointments.

For hair color services, robes are available to wear over or in place of clothing. Color services do not include a blow dry. If an assistant is available, a blow dry can be added for $25, or clients can dry their hair themselves or book a stylist for it. The salon is not responsible for items damaged during a hair color service.
