The center is operated by People-Centered Therapies, LLC and trades as The Wellness Center MN. The business describes itself as women-owned and as a massage and float therapy center focused on holistic approaches to health and healing. It was founded in 1986 by Katie Meisner Olson, and in 1995 it brought float tank services to the Twin Cities. Kara Motta and Rachel Garrison now lead the business after many years as long-term employees.
The business says it aims to be an inclusive therapy center for people of all backgrounds and cultures. According to the business, Terri Burks took over leadership of the center after receiving a massage there in 1996. The blog covers shiatsu, lymphatic massage, skin care and float therapy.
Float sessions take place in an enclosed pod of shallow water kept at about 94 degrees with Epsom salts added, and only one person floats at a time. Clients shower before and after, which adds about 30 minutes to the 90-minute float. Floating before a massage is recommended, floating after one is not allowed, and swimsuits and clothing are not worn in the pod. The pod is not handicap accessible, so clients must be able to enter and exit alone.
Prices: a 90-minute float is $80 ($60 for members); a 3 Float Solution is $199; a Float Intro offer is buy two, get one, at $160; additional member floats are $50. Massage is $110 for 60 minutes ($90 for members) and $140 for 90 minutes ($120 for members). Specialist massage is $135 for 60 minutes ($115 for members) and $177.50 for 90 minutes ($157.50 for members). Upgrades run from $10 to $25. Sales tax applies to all massage and float services, though a physician or chiropractor letter of medical necessity can allow massage to be considered tax exempt.
Payment options include cash, major credit cards, checks payable to The Wellness Center MN, and HSA and FSA cards for eligible services. Auto insurance and workers compensation can be used for related injuries with the required paperwork. Gift cards are sold. Cancellations and reschedules are accepted up to 24 hours ahead; a card on file is charged only after service, or the full charge applies for a no-show. Tipping is customary and a gratuity guide is available at checkout. The business states it has zero tolerance for inappropriate behavior and trains staff to prevent misconduct during sessions. Hours are Tuesday to Friday 10am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm, and closing times may vary slightly.
Sessions are tailored to each client, and therapists may combine several techniques. Clients describe their needs at booking, such as pain, injury or stress, so they can be matched with a therapist and the center can build personalized care plans around massage and float therapies.
According to the business, float sessions are meant for total mind and body relaxation in an enclosed pod.
