The Silk Mill Retreat is a women's day spa on Princess Anne Street in Fredericksburg, founded and owned by Kristy Poux, a licensed massage therapist and esthetician who is also an astrologer. The spa describes its approach as rooted in ancient wisdom, and it combines bodywork, facials, astrology and tarot in one visit.

Appointments are required, and the spa keeps no public waiting area, so staff attend to one client at a time. Each treatment opens with an in-person consultation. Every visit also comes with a complimentary foot soak in astro-herbal blend, scented with aromatherapy, and the visit then moves to either an oracle card reading or a 15-minute rest on an infrared mat infused with chakra gemstones. Guests can pick from more than 30 hot and cold drinks. Treatments running past 75 minutes receive one add-on, which might be sound healing, cupping, dry brushing, or an oil selected from the Astro-Herbal Oil Bar.

The menu is grouped into wholistic massage therapy (including barefoot, Ayurvedic, Lomi Lomi and herbal poultice styles), Slow Beauty organic facials, Sacred Rituals of two to four hours, astrology and tarot readings, and DeepFeet classes for professionals. Astrology-based bodywork is built from a client's birth date, time and location alongside current transits. Packages combine a reading, cosmic herbalism and bodywork, and cosmic herbalism scrubs and oils are made in house from each client's natal chart.

Products are whole plant organic, and the spa uses Laurel Whole Plant Organics. Facial masks are chosen for each client and hand mixed in apothecary style. All facials are extraction free and done without machines. According to the spa, its facial products are free from parabens, synthetic fragrances, endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, GMOs and non-organically grown plants.

New clients join a waitlist and pay a non-refundable retainer on their first booking, and regular clients and their referrals are seen first. Cancellations need 48 hours' notice, and appointments of two hours or longer, or booked 30 days out, require a non-refundable retainer. Readings are offered for entertainment purposes only and do not replace medical, financial, psychological or legal advice.

Treatments and rituals are built around the individual, combining bodywork, facials, herbal elements and astrology in a single visit, with services offered for therapeutic and wellness purposes.
