The Nook

The Nook has two salons, one in Tuscaloosa and one in Birmingham. It was started with the aim of being a safe space where people can build relationships and a sense of community.

The salon's mission centers on supporting its stylists as artists. Stylists run their own businesses and are treated as entrepreneurs, with autonomy over their creative work, mentorship and practical business resources. Because of this, each stylist handles their own booking, and clients should allow 24 to 48 hours for a reply to a booking request sent to a stylist.

The salon takes a holistic view of beauty and connects how a client looks and feels with emotional well-being. Its styling chairs are meant to be meeting places, where clients are listened to and encouraged.

Hair services include color and highlights planned around a client's style, goals and the upkeep they want to commit to, balayage for blended, dimensional brightness, and blonding that ranges from soft dimensional blonde to brighter changes. Haircuts are fitted to the client's personality and individual style. Hair extensions begin with a personal consultation and a service plan to add length, volume or fullness. Bridal hair and makeup, and special occasion styling and makeup, include a hairstyle created for the event. The salon uses Davines products, an Italian brand founded in Parma in 1983 and still family-owned.
