The Mane House

The Mane House is a hair salon in Whippany, New Jersey. The salon says its aim is to help women feel more confident through their hair, and it serves clients from their teens into their sixties. Most of its work is hair extensions and lived-in color, with cuts and styling alongside.

The salon offers three extension methods. Hand-tied weft extensions are sewn into natural hair on a beaded foundation without glue or tape; the salon says they suit fine to thick hair and are maintained every 6 to 10 weeks. K-Tip extensions are keratin bonds placed individually and heat-infused to blend, and are recommended to be reinstalled every 12 to 16 weeks. The salon describes its beaded weft method as suited to thin hair, with less pulling and breakage, lasting up to 8 to 10 months once professionally applied. A Curly Bond option is built around each client's curl pattern, density and lifestyle, and needs a consultation before pricing. The salon says all extensions are made from 100% human hair that is ethically sourced, and they are dyed at the appointment to match the client's color. Starting prices are $1,000 for The Soft Volume, $1,600 for Signature Volume + Length, $2,000 for The Luxe Length, $250 for K-Tip Signature Hairline, $1,200 for K-Tip Signature Volume, and $2,500 for K-Tip Signature Volume + Length.

Lived-in color is a low-maintenance approach that the salon says lasts 6 to 8 months without touch-ups. Options run from subtle highlights framing the face to full coverage, natural or bold. Root Retouch covers new growth or gray, blended into the existing color, and The Refresh pairs face-framing highlights with gloss and a root melt. Blonde AF is a high-impact lightening service that includes gloss and bond builder. Every color service includes a blow-dry and treatment, and the salon notes that starting prices are subject to change.

For cuts and styling, Mane Cut is a dry cut finished with a blowout and personalized styling. Mane Curly Cut is a dry cut that keeps the curl pattern. Mane Blowout is a styling service for volume, smoothness or bounce, and Gloss is a toning and shine treatment that includes a blowout.

Appointments can be booked through an online page hosted by Phorest. A credit card must be kept on file to book, and it is charged only for cancellation or no-show violations. Cancellations or reschedules made with less than 48 hours notice are charged 50% of the service, and same-day cancellations and no-shows are charged the full price. Appointments not confirmed through the automated text five days ahead are canceled. The salon does not offer refunds, asks clients to report dissatisfaction during treatment or within 48 hours, and makes corrections within 7 days of the scheduled service. Children are only allowed in the salon while receiving a service, and clients are asked to tell their specialist about allergies, physical concerns, disabilities or pregnancy before treatment.

The Shadow Experience is a full-day program running 9am to 4pm with lunch included, spent behind the chair with the Mane Creators. It includes a call before the day, the day itself, and a follow-up call, and covers hair extensions, custom color placement, client engagement, hair photography and social media. It is aimed at aspiring hairstylists, cosmetology students, and others interested in hair transformations. A shadow day with both Mane Creators costs $1,500, and a day with either Stephanie or Erlis costs $750.

The salon's stated aim is to build self-esteem through hair, and it presents its work as seamless, natural-looking results with careful blending.
