THE KIT

The KIT describes itself as more than a salon. It is a collective of 11 independent artists, each running their own book, and each artist keeps their own name, business and point of view. Artists work under part-time membership for up to three days a week or full-time membership for four or more days, with terms available by inquiry.

The space has private stations for each artist alongside a communal table, and coffee is served on site. The storefront is bright and uncluttered in look. Street parking is available in unmarked legal spaces around the studio, with clients often using Marshall Way or E 3rd Avenue, and additional garage parking is nearby.

Hair services cover cuts, color and extensions. The extension methods offered are keratin bonds, which are individual bonds with high mobility, natural movement and customizable placement and are often worn about 4 to 6 months per installation cycle; sew-in or weft extensions, which build fullness or length through several installation approaches and generally need maintenance every 6 to 8 weeks; and tape-in extensions, a low-profile method for volume, length and placement that generally needs maintenance every 4 to 8 weeks. Exact timing depends on hair type, growth and the artist's protocol.

Skin and beauty services include facials, brows and eyelashes, and the studio also offers tattoo and wellness services. Visits are by appointment and occasionally otherwise. Clients can send a consultation request sharing goals, timing and preferences. That request is a starting point rather than a required match, and the artist may recommend a different extension method, adjust the plan or suggest a consultation before booking.

Each extension method is settled in a conversation with the artist, so clients can arrive without having chosen one and the artist can recommend a different approach or adjust the plan.
