Stephanie opened The Bare Skin Studio in 2010 and has owned it for 12 years, working as owner and head esthetician. The menu now spans several groups: lashes and brows, waxing and waxing packages, microblading and permanent makeup, skin care, airbrush tanning and memberships.

Waxing uses an all natural soft wax applied with a disposable stick and removed with muslin fabric. The studio says it does not double dip wax sticks and follows Maryland laws and regulations. Clients must be 18 or older, or come with a legal guardian who has valid ID. Waxing every three to four weeks is suggested, with the shortest hair at least a quarter inch long and no shaving between waxes.

Lash extensions are set with a waterproof bonding agent and medical grade adhesive. Black is the usual color, and other colors can be ordered with notice. Refills are suggested every two to four weeks, and clients are asked not to wear mascara with extensions. Microblading and permanent makeup use single-use tools that are disposed of as biohazardous waste after each appointment. A microblading visit takes about two hours, usually needs two treatments four to six weeks apart, and touch-ups are suggested every one to two years.

The membership plans include the Bare Bestie Brazilian membership at $45 a month, for regular waxers only, which lasts six months, cannot be shared, and includes a full Brazilian wax. The Basic, Bold and Boss Babe memberships are billed yearly at $100, $150 and $250. They add discounts on facials, services and products, free eye, lip and scalp treatments, free spray tans or peels, a birthday mini-facial and a skin analysis. Discounts and free items exclude specials and cannot be combined with other specials.

Hours are Tuesday and Thursday 10 AM to 8 PM, Wednesday 9 AM to 5 PM, and Friday 10 AM to 5 PM. Monday and Saturday are by appointment only, and the studio is closed on Sundays. Cancellations or reschedules need at least 24 hours notice. Later cancellations and no-shows are charged 50 percent of the service cost. Microblading and permanent makeup require a $100 deposit, which is not applied to the service if the appointment is not cancelled within 24 hours. Permanent makeup is not recommended for clients who are pregnant or nursing, diabetic, or have had Botox in the past three weeks, and cosmetic tattooing is not performed on pregnant clients.
