The Audubon

The Audubon is a hair salon in Wauwatosa that operates as a collective of independent artists. Clients often choose a stylist as much as a service, since each sets their own menu, signature techniques and personalized pricing.

A haircut visit starts with a consultation and includes a stress-relieving treatment, shampoo, conditioning, and a blow-dry or style. A bang and neck trim is complimentary between haircut visits. Listed prices are starting points that vary with hair length, density, product use and time needed, and styling prices are tailored to each client.

Color is done with Aveda hair color, which the salon notes is up to 96 percent naturally derived. Shades can be customized and the color is designed to resist fading. Brow waxing uses an all-natural wax, and the stylists who do it are trained in brow design, customization and skin health. Styling includes blowouts for events and bridal hair.

Clients can book online, by request form, or by phone, and online booking is recommended. Monday is by appointment only, with Tuesday through Thursday 9am to 9pm, Friday 9am to 5pm, and Saturday 8am to 3pm. Clients are asked to arrive at least 10 minutes early. Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice, and changes made with less notice carry a charge of half the scheduled service. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, cash and personal checks are accepted, with personal checks limited to established clients with three or more visits. Clients who contact the front desk within three days of a service can book a complimentary redo within 14 days.
