Thairapy was founded by Dusty Schlabach, who also owns the salon. The salon welcomes all hair types and states a mission of giving every client an exceptional and educational salon experience and hair they love. It holds LVL3 Deva Curl certification and Great Lengths Extensions certification.

About

The salon sits in central South Pasadena and can be reached by the 110 North from downtown Los Angeles. It is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 7pm, and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9am to 5pm, and is closed Sunday and Monday. Appointments can be booked online or by calling 626.441.2062. Clients are asked to arrive with hair washed the day or night before and air dried, without hair ties, clips, hats or buns, and with minimal styling products. The salon describes its color correction work as life-saving.

Cancellations made at least 48 hours ahead by calling the salon are not charged. Fifty percent of services are charged for cancellations made 48 to 24 hours before the appointment, and the full price is charged within 24 hours. No refunds are given for hair-related services. Modification appointments need to be booked within seven days of the original date to avoid being charged as a standard appointment. Photos and video taken by staff may be used in print or electronic publication and belong to the salon.

Color services include balayage, which is a freehand technique developed in the 1970s, along with pintura partial and full highlights, foil highlights, base color and retouch, bleach-out, gloss, and corrective and creative color. Balayage can be done on pixie cuts, though the salon says results are best on hair below the shoulders. Corrective and creative color require a consultation before booking. Starting prices are $175 for base color and root touch-up, $250 for full highlights, $300 for pintura partial highlights, $350 for balayage and for base color and highlights, and $400 for pintura full highlights. The Deva/Curly Cut and Style is cut on dry hair, then cleansed, conditioned and styled under heat or with a diffuser, and is customized to each curl pattern using curl-by-curl sculpting or the Deva Signature Waterfall cutting technique. It starts at $200, and the Deva/Curly Cut To Go, a dry cut only, starts at $150.
