SOHO was founded more than twenty years ago by Esther as a nail salon in Caldwell, NJ. The business is now located at 44 Clinton Road in West Caldwell, next to Dunkin Donuts and Harmon, and is open Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 6:00pm and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm. The salon describes its services as modern self-care with a holistic outlook that aims beyond surface-level treatment.

The brow menu covers consultation, lamination, shaping, tinting and Nano Brows. Nano Brows are semi-permanent makeup applied with a digital nano-pen, which deposits custom pigments into the top layer of skin. Every Nano Brow client starts with a consultation and receives a plan shaped to their face and brow structure. The shape is sketched in pencil and must be approved before the procedure begins. A topical numbing cream is available on request for clients with sensitive skin. The first session can take 1.5 to 2 hours. The salon says it is the first in West Caldwell to offer Nano Brows.

Healing is covered in detail. Brows usually look darker for a few days and then lighten by roughly 30 to 40 percent. Downtime is about four to six weeks, with flaking continuing for 10 to 14 days. A follow-up is recommended at four to six weeks, and touch-ups are scheduled no sooner than four weeks after the first appointment. Nano Brows fade over time and typically need a refresher every 12 to 24 months. The salon notes that results cannot be guaranteed, and clients with lighter hair, correction work or sparse brows may need more than one follow-up at an additional cost.

Booking deposits are nonrefundable. Touch-up pricing applies to current clients only, and brows previously tattooed by another artist are priced at new-client rates starting at $500. Before a brow appointment, clients are asked to avoid retinol-type products for two days, caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours, aspirin or blood thinners for 24 hours, and tanning in the week of treatment. Waxing or threading should be done at least 48 hours before. Chemical peels, Botox, microdermabrasion, laser and other intense treatments are not permitted in the two weeks before brow work.
