SkinGuru Spa started as a HydraFacial studio and added scalp care after bringing Keravive by HydraFacial into its menu. It later introduced the Japanese head spa to Santa Monica, and the business says it was the first spa in the city to offer one. The Los Angeles Times is reported by the business to have named it one of the best head spas in LA.

The spa occupies the upstairs level of 522 Wilshire Blvd, Suite J, directly across from Tocaya Organica. Guests use the doorway next to the Hair by Mr. Klein signage and climb the staircase on the left. The building has no elevator, and the spa is not wheelchair accessible. Parking options include metered spaces on Wilshire Blvd and 6th Street, the paid CVS lot at 5th and Wilshire (payment through the Honk app), and Parking Structure 1 on 4th Street between Wilshire and Arizona, the nearest public garage. Opening hours are 10 AM to 7 PM on Thursdays and Fridays, 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturdays, and 10 AM to 7 PM on alternate Wednesdays. The spa is closed from Sunday through Tuesday.

Treatments are given one guest at a time in a private boutique setting. Friends who book together are scheduled back-to-back and can wait in the waiting area or stay in the treatment room. Clients under 18 need a parent or guardian present for the whole appointment. Booking is available online at any time through the Square page, or by texting (323) 746-4374.

Clients are asked for 24 hours' notice to cancel or change an appointment, and arriving more than 10 minutes late may mean rescheduling. Clients with hair extensions should mention them when booking. Before a Keravive treatment, clients are asked to avoid hair dye or chemical processing for two weeks; before facials, they are asked to skip retinol or strong actives for a couple of days.

Gift cards come in two forms: eGift cards delivered by text or email, available in fixed denominations or a chosen amount, and physical cards purchased online and collected at the spa. Skincare, haircare and sun care products may be ordered online and are shipped domestically within the US from the Santa Monica location. Services not provided here include full-body massage, dermaplaning, Botox, fillers, laser treatments, mesotherapy and hair color. The spa also does not operate as a training school.

Takes a clinical, science-first approach to skin and scalp care, with clinical advice from John LeDonne, MD, who reviews research and treatments for safety. The business says it gives honest advice without a sales pitch and does not recommend products clients do not need.
