Shear Love was founded in 2011 by Mimi Lee, who moved from a creative director role into running her own business. The salon is located inside Akasa Salon on Edgewood Avenue SE. Clients book by appointment only, Monday through Saturday, and in-salon services are offered with flexible hours.

The menu covers haircuts for women, men and children, with single process, double process, partial and full highlights, glazes, corrective color and rainbow color. Styling options include blowouts and heat styling, braids, up-dos and American Wave, and treatments include conditioning, scalp treatment and keratin smoothing.

Much of the work happens away from the chair. Pop-up services can be held at the salon, at a DIY art space or at festivals, and include braid bars and trunk shows. Tween parties can be held in the salon or on-site for kids ages 5 and up, with choices such as braids, glitter, face paint or glam. Bridal packages are tailored to each client and include braids, up-dos, pin waves and curls, and wedding day hair can be done on-site for the bride, bridesmaids and wedding court.

The business says it wants to help underprivileged children who lack access to grooming and styling, and to teach them self-care. It also says it seeks to work with other hairdressers and to partner with local, national and international causes.

Booking terms are set out clearly. Appointments are required for all services. A 24-hour cancellation notice is required, otherwise 50% of the service is charged, and a deposit of 50% may be required to book. Services received cannot be refunded, and returns and refunds are limited to within 30 days.

Pairs salon work with community outreach, including grooming and self-care lessons for underprivileged children.
