The salon's approach centers on cutting curly hair dry, so the stylist can see how each curl moves and where it falls before cutting. A visit begins with a consultation, which is included with every service, followed by a cut worked curl by curl with extra time built in and a full curly styling at the end. Long or thick hair needs the Multi-Tex service.
For the best fit, clients arrive with hair down, dry and detangled, using product only if it is not sticky, greasy or crunchy. Hair should be in its everyday state rather than in an updo, a fresh blowout or after several days without washing. Curly cuts do not include a blow-dry, which can be booked separately.
Color work is built around Pintura, a hand-painting technique similar to balayage that follows the shape of each curl. Pintura Highlighting is painted by hand on curly and wavy hair without foils. The salon uses Goldwell Topchic permanent color, offering more than 120 custom shades, with formulas that include Coenzyme, IntraLipid and BondPro+ technologies intended to protect hair during coloring. A Glaze or Tonal Refresh adds tone and shine and can be booked alone or with a cut.
Booking is online through Vagaro, including from mobile. A card on file holds the appointment without charging it at booking. Clients should give 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule; late changes, no-shows and arrivals more than 20 minutes late are charged the full service fee. Email and text reminders go out 48 hours ahead. The salon is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Street meter parking is usually available nearby, and the salon validates parking at a garage on Dummer Street a 4 to 6 minute walk away.
