Sensa Salon sits on First Avenue in downtown Seattle and describes itself as a high-end hair salon. Alicia founded the salon and has owned it since 2014. The salon works mainly by appointment because walk-in space is limited. Each visit starts with an in-depth consultation covering hair goals, care habits, budget and the maintenance schedule a client can realistically keep.
The salon's concept centers on hair health, using botanical-based salon products and techniques. Its stylists are described as known for a creative eye and natural-looking cuts and colors, drawing on current trends in hair, art and fashion. Sustainability is part of the work: Sensa is a certified Green Circle Salon, and the salon says about 98% of the items used during a service are recycled. Used color tubes, caps, gloves and lids are recycled, unused color goes to Green Circle Salons to be reused as pigment, and cut hair is sent to be made into booms used for oil spills. The salon also states it is recognized by the City of Seattle's On The Map program.
A visit can be as quiet or as social as a client wants. Guests are offered water, tea, coffee, wine, beer or a seasonal drink, and a lounge and cafe with free Wi-Fi and magazines is open to those waiting for their stylist. Guests can use the Wi-Fi to work on laptops or other devices during appointments, and a Silent Session add-on is available for a quieter visit. Dogs are welcome on a leash if they are calm around people and other dogs, while small children are not permitted, to keep the salon calm and safe.
New clients need a consultation before in-salon color services, and color correction and extension services always require one. Color correction on hair with previous at-home all-over color needs a test strand first, with a deposit due at booking. Extension consultations are booked by phone and cover goals, expectations and short- and long-term investment. Pricing depends on each stylist, and stylist-specific pricing is listed on the about page. Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice, late cancellations are charged 50% of scheduled services, and no-shows are charged 100%.
Sensa works by appointment and builds each visit around hair health, botanical-based products and techniques, and a consultation that shapes the service to the client's lifestyle.
According to the salon, the setting is welcoming and luxurious, with a lounge and cafe for guests waiting on their stylist.
