The Gary Manuel Aveda Institute was sold in 2021 and now operates as the Aveda Arts & Sciences Institute, which has no connection to the salon anymore.

Stylists move up through levels, from New Talent to Stylist, Senior Stylist and Master Stylist. New Talent stylists are licensed and still in training, so their service menu depends on which technical exams they have passed. Stylists at the Stylist level and above have completed the salon's cut, color and customer service program, which covers cutting, color, styling, texture, barbering and client care. Every stylist also completes advanced training in cutting, coloring and styling curly, coily and wavy hair. The salon describes its New Talent program as renowned and describes itself as known for guest service and stylist training.

A visit can start with a free consultation, which is required before color correction, complex color and extensions. For color correction and double process work, the stylist assesses the hair first and quotes the price and number of appointments. Online booking is open at any time, and clients can also call. Walk-ins are welcome when a stylist is free, though booking ahead secures a preferred time and stylist. Reservations require a credit or debit card. Changes need at least 24 hours' notice, and late changes or missed appointments carry service charges. An $8 administration fee is added to each service total, which the salon says helps fund health insurance and a livable wage for its team.

The salon hosts on-site weddings and in-salon bridal services, and suggests booking well in advance and holding a run-through a few weeks or months before the wedding. Paid street parking runs along Second Avenue and James Street, and the Pioneer Square light rail station is directly across James Street. According to the salon, one of its collections won Barber Stylist of the Year at the American Beauty Vision Awards in 2026, and another was named Men's Collection North America Winner at the Behind the Chair One Shot Global Hair Awards in 2026.

The salon says its goal is to help people feel good about themselves through innovation and excellence, and that it aims to enrich its clients, its community and its team.
