Samatva Skin & Body

Samatva Skin & Body is a small wellness studio in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood, created by Paige Gayle. The name comes from a Sanskrit word for equanimity or balance, which reflects the studio's view that body, mind and spirit are connected and that internal and external health support each other. The studio describes its services as holistic treatments for women's health.

Facials begin with a skin evaluation and cleansing, followed by hydrosols, warm compresses and a custom botanical mask made with organic ingredients. Extractions are done only when needed, and the facial ends with massage using serums and oils. The studio says its holistic facials suit acne, rosacea, inflammation, and dehydrated or dull skin. Facial options run 60, 75 or 90 minutes, priced from $155 to $205.

Bodywork centers on manual lymphatic drainage. The studio says this kind of massage supports immune function, reduces inflammation, improves sleep and reduces stress, and that MLD is designed for people with lymphedema, lipedema or trauma to the lymphatic system. Because lymphatic-focused massage is specific in its approach, a discussion before a first appointment helps decide whether it suits the client. A 60-minute MLD session costs $140 and a 90-minute session costs $190. The 60-minute Breast Massage Treatment is an MLD session for breast health, also $140.

Specialty treatments combine facial and bodywork. The Samatva Session is a 90-minute facial followed by customized bodywork, which can focus on lymphatics, scar tissue, breast massage, fascial restrictions or overall stress reduction, for $230. The Manual Lymphatic Drainage Facial and the Sculpt & Lift Facial each take 90 minutes and cost $205. The Sculpt & Lift combines connective tissue massage with Gua Sha, which uses a jade stone tool on the face and neck and is distinct from manual lymphatic drainage.

Hair removal covers chin, lip, brows and a brows-and-lip combination, done by waxing and tweezing. Brows take 20 minutes for $30, chin and lip take 10 minutes each for $15, and the combination takes 30 minutes for $45. The studio sells plant-based, organic skincare that can be picked up in the studio or ordered online and shipped within the United States by USPS. Gift cards are available.
