Salon V was founded in 2004 by Vernelle and Alan Murphy. It started in the East Village and moved to Greenwich Village in 2014. Mar McCown joined as a partner in 2025, and Vernelle continues as owner, working as a master stylist and colorist.

About

The salon describes its atmosphere as chic and modern with a warm, down-to-earth feel and no pretension. The salon describes itself as one of New York City's standout beauty destinations.

Color work is done with Color.Me, which the salon says is PPD free and ammonia free. Vivid Color, Double Process/Platinum Retouch and Signature Blonding start at set prices, while color corrections and custom vivid color are priced after a consultation, and final color prices are confirmed at that consultation. Extensions use the Strand by Strand Micro-Link method and begin with a complimentary consultation of about 30 minutes before the first appointment.

Booking takes a valid credit card to reserve an appointment, and a $5 convenience fee applies to bookings. Changes or cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice, with a 25% charge for shorter notice, late arrivals or missed appointments. No-call, no-show appointments are charged 50% of the booked service, and arriving more than 15 minutes late may mean rescheduling. Gratuities are accepted by cash or Venmo only, and American Express transactions carry a 4% surcharge.

The Model Project offers haircuts at no charge and color services for a $40 fee. Apprentices carry out this work under the owner's guidance. The salon is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm, and it is hiring stylists; resumes go to info@salonvnyc.com. Contact is by phone at 212-529-0241.
