Owner and Master Stylist Dolores Velasquez opened Salon Protégé as a private salon in New York City in 2016. The business later moved closer to home on Long Island. The salon is described as semi-private, and the booking page presents it as a professional, friendly environment.

Each visit begins with a custom consultation, and the stylist plans the service with the client. The salon offers almost every type of 100% remy human hair extension in straight, wavy or curly textures and in all colors, including rooted and balayage extensions for a color match and colored pieces for contrast. Custom color is mixed with products the salon describes as the highest quality on the market. Clients can add a $50 consultation for extensions, which is applied toward services booked afterward.

Hours are Tuesday to Thursday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; the salon is closed Monday, Saturday and Sunday. Cancellations are accepted up to 24 hours before a service. Cancellations inside that window are charged 50% of the scheduled cost, and no-shows are charged the full service price. Gift cards are available as e-gift cards in set amounts or as a custom amount, and in person.

Each client gets a custom consultation during the appointment and a plan for keeping hair looking its best between visits.

The salon is semi-private, with a professional and friendly feel.
