Olivia O'Hara founded Salon Opal to bring hairstyling together with a coastal, relaxing experience. The salon's stated mission is to enhance each client's natural beauty through skilled technique and quality products, in a warm and welcoming setting. The space has a relaxed, coastal feel inspired by Cape Cod and Florida beaches.

Gray coverage takes about 1.5 hours without add-ons and starts at $150; it can permanently or semi-permanently cover gray, with optional color, gloss or toner added to the ends. Partial highlights and partial balayage cover the top section only, start at $290 to $365 depending on stylist, and take about 2.5 hours. Full highlights and full balayage cover the entire head, start at $375 to $465, and take about 4 hours. Highlighting and balayage are priced as a package that includes bowl work, a haircut and a blow-dry. A face frame highlight starts at $200 and takes about 1.5 hours. The Brazilian Blowout is a smoothing treatment that reduces frizz rather than straightening hair; it takes about 3.5 hours depending on hair density and starts at $375.

Extensions are a major focus. Every extension is made from 100% human hair, available in lengths from 14 to 24 inches. Hand-tied weft extensions are installed on a beaded foundation and sewn into the hair, and the salon says its hand-tied method has been refined over the past five years. K-Tip extensions are individually bonded with keratin tips, and weft extensions are also offered. Clip-in extensions are available as a non-permanent option. Pricing for extensions is set at a consultation. New extension clients must book a consultation before any extension appointment; it is complimentary and covers hair amounts, pricing for hair and installation, and maintenance. Extension clients sign an extension contract before booking or buying hair. Weft bookings require payment for the hair in advance, and K-Tip bookings may require a deposit.

Salon Opal is appointment-only and does not accept walk-ins. There is no receptionist, so clients reach the salon through the contact form, by text at 781-724-0889, or by email at salonopal.ma@gmail.com. New clients fill out a New Client Form sent through Square while their appointment request is pending. Clients are asked to arrive with clean, dry hair free of products, and may bring inspiration photos or videos. Children are asked to stay home, and guests are asked to come alone unless they have appointments at the same time. Designated parking is behind the building, which sits on a busy road. Cancellations or reschedules with less than 48 hours notice are charged 50% of the booked service. No-shows and no-calls are charged the full scheduled service, and clients cannot rebook until the fee is paid. Guests more than 15 minutes late may be rescheduled or refused the full service. The salon does not currently offer bridal services. Gift cards and Opal crewneck sweatshirts are available.
