ROIL Salon is set in a converted 1920s warehouse with plenty of sunlight and high ceilings. The space is styled to feel chic and intimate, and the salon says it has hosted a number of well-known Hollywood names over the years.

The salon was founded by Amanda George, its principal colorist, who trained in London, moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990s and opened her namesake salon in Beverly Hills in 2005. The team is organized around hair cutting, styling, color, extensions, straightening, treatments and makeup, and the salon says it specializes in cutting techniques for women's haircuts.

Appointments are booked by phone rather than email. Services such as styling take 30 to 60 minutes, and deep conditioning treatments are recommended especially after color. House calls can be arranged by advanced booking, with pricing quoted in advance based on the service, location and stylist availability. Makeup is by appointment only and must be scheduled ahead, and the salon works with two makeup artists for events, photo shoots and everyday glam.

Policies are set out clearly. Cancellations and reschedules need 24 hours' notice, and a missed notice is charged at 50% of the service. Service concerns must be raised within seven days of the appointment and are handled in person with the stylist or colorist and a manager. Refunds are at management's discretion and are not guaranteed, while corrections are provided at no added charge when the salon considers them necessary. Only service dogs are welcome in the salon.

The salon says it aims for the highest level of hair care standards and runs on a no-attitude policy.
