Rio Rose Hair

Rio Rose Hair opened in 2021 as a collective of independent hairdressers, founded by Taren Redwine and Malerie Neilsen. The two have worked together as hairdressers for well over a decade, and according to the salon they have trained several generations of hairdressers.

The salon's outlook is that good hair can sit comfortably alongside healthy beauty choices. It says it values authenticity over trends, enjoys editorial work, and encourages self-care and self-worth.

Hair services are by appointment only. Haircut bookings run from 15 to 90 minutes, depending on hair density, how much change is wanted and styling needs. Razor cuts are booked for an hour with an optional wash, and clients are asked to arrive with their natural texture. Street parking on the block is free for two hours on weekdays and has no time limit on weekends, while surrounding blocks are metered. Shopping hours run 10 AM to 3 PM every day, and contact messages are answered within 24 hours.

Color work includes balayage, which can be booked as a full head highlight or a partial that leaves out the underneath, and dimensional brunette color. For more dimension the salon recommends a partial highlight or a root tint with highlights. Grey blending blends roots as they grow out, follows the natural tonal shift and is glossed regularly, while grey coverage suits clients who want no visible grey. Color is mixed at an Evo color bar. Editorial and special event styling covers weddings, photo shoots and nights out, and those requests go through the contact page message form.
