Principle Salon was founded in January 2017 and is run by owner Alx Nixon, who also works as a stylist and colorist. The salon describes itself as highly rated and as the healthiest hair salon in the area.
The salon's philosophy centers on low-toxic hair color and styling products, organic when possible, and on keeping its environmental footprint small. It is a Green Circle Salon and works with Green Circle to recycle used foils, color tubes, and excess color, and composts hair clippings. It also tries to avoid single-use and non-recyclable plastic items. A high-capacity HEPA air filter cycles the air in the salon every 15 minutes.
Balayage is a major specialty. The salon explains it as a form of highlighting in which lightener is swept on to place highlights where they are needed, and says a balayage can last up to six months before it needs a touch-up. Services also include curly haircuts, razor cutting, dry cutting, precision cutting, highlights, and blonding.
Pricing for haircuts is set by service rather than gender, and prices may vary by stylist. First-time clients booking a partial or full highlight or balayage are quoted $515 and $590 respectively, with appointments of about 3 hours 30 minutes and about 4 hours. Existing clients are quoted partial balayage starting at $325 and full balayage starting at $390. A color consultation costs $40 and takes about 20 minutes, and that fee is applied to the service you book.
Booking requires at least 48 hours' notice to cancel. A cancellation within 48 hours of the appointment is charged at least 50% of the booked total. The salon offers gift cards, and the products used in the salon can be tried there and bought for home use.
The salon uses low-toxic color and styling products, organic when possible, and aims for haircuts and color with minimal environmental impact.
