Prime Electrolysis is run by its owner-operator, Ivana, a licensed professional electrologist who has practiced since 2013. The practice first operated in Fremont, CA and later moved to El Sobrante. The business states that Ivana has helped hundreds of clients permanently remove unwanted hair.

Electrolysis places a fine needle into the opening of each follicle and delivers a small current meant to destroy the cells that grow hair. The business states that electrolysis is the only method the FDA recognizes as permanent hair removal, and describes its results as unsurpassed across the widest range of skin and hair types. The method itself dates to 1875, when it was first used to remove hair permanently, according to the business.

Each client starts with a complimentary consultation, booked by phone, and treatment plans are set after a personal and confidential conversation. Sessions run from about 15 minutes to more than an hour depending on the area. Because hairs grow in different stages, most clients need multiple regular sessions; the business says becoming hair free can take two to three years. Clients may feel a brief sting and some mild redness afterward, and tolerance varies from person to person.

Electrolysis can be done on most moles where licensing rules allow, but it requires written approval from the client's physician. Clients under 16 must come with a parent or legal guardian. First-time clients, and anyone not seen in more than 24 months, complete a health and history card and arrive five minutes early. Cancellations or no-shows without 24 hours notice are charged the full amount for the missed time, and payment is due in full at the visit by cash or Zelle.
