Pinup Studio began in 2015 as a one-chair studio opened by founder Christina K. It moved in 2018 into a 10-chair salon in a former barbershop, and in 2024 it grew to 16 chairs and added a dedicated bridal suite. The salon describes itself as a top-rated salon in Raleigh.

The salon calls itself education-driven and fully staffed by an in-house team, and says it invests in its stylists through ongoing training, education and mentorship. Clients who are unsure whom to book can use an online matchmaking tool that pairs them with up to three stylists based on their goals, personality and budget.

A visit starts with a one-on-one consultation. For color, the stylist looks at hair condition, texture and the result the client wants, then formulates a custom color, and the appointment closes with a blow-dry, product suggestions for home and a follow-up schedule. Lightening begins with a conversation about goals, hair health, texture and lifestyle; formulas are personalized and bond-building protection can be added. Color is applied with foils or by hand, then toned as needed, and the visit ends with a blow-dry, at-home care tips and a maintenance plan. Haircuts come in 45-minute and 60-minute versions, the longer one including precision cutting, and every cut includes a shampoo with products chosen for the client's hair type and styling tips to take home.

Hair extensions require an in-salon consultation before booking, and pricing is provided after that conversation. An extension visit covers a color match, installation, cutting and blending, and a personalized maintenance kit with a schedule. Installation can use full wefts, mini wefts or three rows for a fuller result, and hair tinsel comes in sets of six or eight with adjustable placement. The salon sells its own hand-tied extension line, PS Wefts, in lengths from 16 to 24 inches, and says it sources and designs its own hair with a focus on quality and consistency. Some hair may need to be custom ordered to reach a particular color or result.

The salon is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 AM to 7 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and is closed Sunday and Monday. Published policies cover cancellations, late arrivals, no-shows, changing services, refunds for services and products, and a no-kids rule, and gift cards are available.

The salon works from consultation to aftercare: each service starts with questions about the client's hair and goals, and visits close with home care and a plan for the next appointment. Its education-first culture shapes how stylists are trained and paired with clients.
