Pink Comb Studio

Pink Comb Studio was founded by owner Michelle Surgent, who started it as a side job while still in college. The business has been operating for about two decades and has offered on-location bridal services since 2001. Before the Westfield studio, it ran as Pink Comb Salon in Nutley, New Jersey, from 2007 to 2013, and moved to Westfield in 2013. The name comes from an inside joke about the pink combs used for wedding hair. A sister company, Happily Ever Headpiece, sells bridal accessories on Etsy.

Visits are by appointment only. Trials take place at the studio by appointment. Anyone asking about a wedding date should be ready to share the date, the time the beauty finish is needed, the getting-ready location, the number of people and the services wanted. On-location hair and makeup need at least five people for each service, and smaller groups can book at the studio in January and February. Weddings in New York City, New York State, Pennsylvania and Connecticut can be considered on request, depending on artist availability, and other out-of-area weddings are considered case by case.

Bridal makeup has a flat fee that includes airbrush and eyelash application, with no added charge on the day. Travel fees vary by New Jersey county and by artist, and current rates are sent by email on request. The business describes its rates as extremely competitive. Group discounts are not offered, and children's parties and blowout-only appointments are not offered either.

Bridal touch-up packages are billed hourly after the main bridal services, with a three-hour minimum, and one artist stays with the bride for the package. Clip-in hair extensions are sold at the studio, and a custom color consultation comes before ordering. The studio states it is licensed and insured, and a certificate of insurance is available on request.

Each look is shaped with the client, with the artist listening closely to what the client wants.
