Painted Manes

Painted Manes was co-created by Mav Hale and Whitney Karpoff, who opened the salon after about seven years working in the hair industry. The salon describes its atmosphere as welcoming, relaxing and fun, and says it aims to be a safe, inclusive space where everyone feels welcome and respected.

Handtied extensions are installed without glue or adhesive. A foundation row of micro beads is placed first, and the weft hair is sewn onto it with hair-safe thread. They are quoted at 18 or 22 inches, with longer lengths special ordered, and come in six options. The service is listed at a minimum of 120 minutes and starts at $950. Wear time runs about 6 to 10 weeks before reinstallation, which uses hair the salon says lasts up to a year.

Fusion extensions are offered by two methods. Hairdreams Fusion is applied with the Laserbeamer Nano Gun in about two hours and lasts 4 to 5 months without move-ups. The 18-inch New Fusion service starts at $1,800, and 22 inches or longer is quoted in the salon. Keratin tip extensions take 2.5 to 6 hours and last 4 to 6 months without move-ups, and the salon describes them as more discreet.

A 30-minute hair extension consultation covers the method options, which method suits the client's hair, and color matching in several tones for dimension. Buy now, pay later financing is available for in-person bookings and for bookings from $50 to $4,000, with approval required before the appointment. Branded merchandise, including cropped tees, sweatshirts, jerseys and hats, is sold for $30 to $65.
