About

MOSS Salon Studios opened in 2019 in Midtown Kansas City. Rather than running a salon with employees, the building rents individual studios to independent professionals who run their own businesses and book their own clients. Rent is one weekly or monthly payment, and the gross lease covers utilities, internet, common area use and maintenance, and parking.

The business grew out of founder Lauren Euston's years working in salons and her own booth rental salon in the Crossroads Arts District. She led the commercial real estate work for the building, including securing the property and financing, and designed the flagship space with HOK Architects. She also built the MOSS brand and the systems for leasing and property management.

Studios come in three types: hair studios with a backwash shampoo bowl, esthetics studios with a sink, and studios for creative, tattoo or other uses. Hair studios include styling chairs and shampoo bowls, and every studio has dimmable lighting and high ceilings. A shared common area offers a heat lamp and hooded hair dryers for processing, which the business describes as the best feature of the space.

The business describes itself as Kansas City's first urban salon studio concept and first coworking space for beauty and wellness professionals, and as a professional, welcoming community with responsive customer service.

Built on independent creative direction, job security and a low barrier to entry, the concept gives professionals a way to run their own business without the cost and commitment of opening a full salon.

Studios have dimmable lighting and high ceilings in a Midtown building.
