MJ Salon was founded by Manny and Jessica, who combined a barbershop and a salon in one space. The business began by renting a suite on Main Street in Boonton.
Manny worked as a barber at Uptown Cutz in Morristown before opening the salon, and he brought an established following of clients with him when it opened. Jessica had run her own shop before partnering with him. Together they offer men's, women's, boys' and girls' services under one roof.
The salon describes itself as premium barbershop and salon services in Boonton and says its grooming and styling are meant for the whole family. Services are grouped for men, women, girls, boys, and chemical treatments. Appointments are booked by calling the salon, and it is open Tuesday through Saturday, closed on Sunday and Monday.
The salon takes part in community life. It makes regular donations to local food pantries, has hosted special salon days for preschoolers, takes part in career day at John Hill School in Boonton, and is involved with the Boonton Women's Club. Each April, during Autism Awareness Month, it donates $5 from every service to caregivers of people with special needs, choosing a new recipient each year.
