The name is pronounced me-care. The business began in 2013 as Meker Makeovers, a freelance beauty team for weddings and special events, founded by Kera Washington and Meshell. The salon opened in 2020, and the MeKer Hair Extensions line launched a few years after the makeovers team started.

Clients book through an online booking widget for individual or group appointments, and can also buy products, packages and gift cards there. The salon is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm and Saturday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm. Cancellations made less than 24 hours ahead carry a 50% service charge, and clients arriving more than 15 minutes late may be asked to reschedule for a $25 fee.

Hair extension services include the Sew-In, Micro Link, I-Tip, Clip-In and U-Part/Wig experiences. The Styling Station covers shampoo and style, shampoo and style with extensions, blow-outs and thermal work, while the Natural Styling Station adds braids, twists, crochet braids, locs, coils, sets and flat twists.

Custom color is non-refundable and requires a 50% deposit before work begins. Clients have 72 hours from pickup, delivery or install to review extensions and report tone or blending concerns, and one minor tone adjustment may be offered within that window at the colorist's discretion. Color results are guaranteed only on MeKer Hair Extensions, not on other brands, and clients are asked to use the professional products their stylist recommends to keep color looking its best.
