The business opened in 1995 and is run by co-owners Chele Piatt and Collette Peterson. Its roots go back to founder Jerry Piatt, who began cutting hair in Dayton, Ohio in 1957 and received a California State barber license in 1958. He designed and launched The Razor's Edge in 1970, a barber, hair replacement and hair salon, and handed the business to the two co-owners in September 2011. The American Hair Loss Council regards him as a hair replacement pioneer.

After the 2011 handover, the co-owners remodeled the salon and added 700 square feet. The space includes nine private rooms, a laser room, a room certified for microblading and a large production room. Private rooms are used for men's hair replacement consultations, and complimentary consultations are available by appointment. Monday visits are by appointment only; the salon is open Tuesday through Friday from 8am to 5pm and Saturday from 8am to 2pm, and it is closed on Sunday.

Hair replacement is the core of the business. Women can choose custom hand-made hair systems, wigs and extensions, and men receive custom hair systems fitted to each client. The salon says it uses human hair products to create natural-looking systems. Alongside this, the barbering side covers traditional and modern haircuts, fades and lines, beard shaping and trimming, and traditional straight razor and hot towel shaves, with styling, coloring and custom extensions also available.
