Founded in September 2014 by Yuko T. Koach, the school is family-owned and run. It occupies a spot in downtown Los Angeles, within walking distance of the Little Tokyo/Arts District Metro station. According to the school, its neighborhood and its focus on a diverse community distinguish it, and it aims to foster creative expression among students from many backgrounds.

The school runs three programs. Cosmetology is a 1,000-hour program covering hair, skin and nails, Esthetician is a 600-hour program in skin care, and Manicuring is a 400-hour program in nail care. The Cosmetology and Esthetician programs prepare students for the California State Board exam, and the Manicuring program does too. Cosmetology and Esthetician can be taken full-time, part-time or in a hybrid format, while Manicuring is hybrid only. A full-time Cosmetology schedule runs about 7 months and a full-time Esthetician schedule about 19 weeks. Hybrid program length depends on how many on-campus practical hours a student schedules each week. The school does not offer any program fully online.

In hybrid programs, theory is studied online through Milady and practical training happens on campus. Up to half of training can be completed online, while in-person attendance is required every week. Hybrid students must meet coursework deadlines and take part in monthly testing. New classes begin every month, and the school accepts transfer hours from other schools under its prior training policy.

The student clinic is where the hands-on work happens. Students perform haircuts, color, styling and chemical services, facials, waxing, brows and makeup, and manicures, pedicures and nail enhancements, all under the direction of licensed instructors who supervise each service. Clinic hair services are priced by experience: Associate students have completed at least 10% of the Cosmetology program and Senior students at least 51%, and the Senior level includes relaxers. Clinic appointments are not guaranteed and can change, be delayed or be cancelled depending on student availability. Clients book by calling or texting the admissions line. The school is accredited by NACCAS, approved by the California BPPE, and approved for federal financial aid. Esthetician students receive Sugar Lash Classic lash extension certification on completion, and Manicuring students receive Aprés Gel-X certification training.

Learning is split between online theory and supervised hands-on practice, with students working on real clients in the student clinic under licensed instructors.
