James Griffith Salon opened in Venice, Florida in 1988 as an AVEDA Concept Salon. Owner James Griffith, a master hairdresser, was introduced to Aveda, the salon business and training early in his career, and later to French haircutting at the first Aveda Congress. He went on to start an apprentice program built around that technique. Christine Griffith is also an owner and handles business development.

The group has grown to four locations. Boca Grande opened in 2000 in partnership with the Gasparilla Inn, where it sits on the water. Sarasota opened in 2008 on Clark Road, a few miles from Siesta Key Beach. The newest studio is in Downtown Wellen Park, and the Venice location, in downtown Venice, serves as the corporate office and hosts the in-house training for hairdressers. The company says it employs close to 100 staff.

This is a hair salon at its heart. According to the salon, its signature is French haircutting. Services include blowouts, color and highlights, balayage, custom color correction, keratin treatments, and formal updos for proms, homecomings, weddings and other occasions. Wedding bookings start with an online inquiry form. The wedding team can work in the salon or travel to a venue, a home, a suite or another place where the client is getting ready. The salon holds a wedding date for 72 hours after a non-refundable $250 fee, which it calls a save-the-date fee, and that fee is credited toward wedding day services. For hair services, clients are asked to come in with clean, dry hair. For makeup, they are asked to come in with a clean, moisturized face.

Boca Grande also offers facials, glycolic peels and dermaplaning, using professional skincare products customized to each client's skin needs. Nail services, including manicures, pedicures and paraffin add-ons, are available there too. Venice, Sarasota and Wellen Park offer French haircutting, balayage, color services, Bellami extensions, and minor eyebrow and face waxing.

Built around French haircutting and ongoing education, with a stated aim of caring for clients from the front desk through to the stylists and managers. Staff attend continual education to build technical skills and keep up with current trends.

Boca Grande sits on the water inside the Gasparilla Inn, and the Wellen Park studio uses vintage leather tones and rock-themed imagery in its design.
