Honeycomb Studio opened in November 2009 on 24th Street and Thomas Road in Phoenix and moved to the Willo neighborhood in May 2013. Owner Ambur Gore started the studio to focus on vegan and organic hair care that uses fewer chemicals.

The menu is grouped into color, dreadlocks, haircuts, perms, refresh mini services, styling and treatments. Dreadlock work covers maintenance, installation and extensions, removal, locking perms and partial sets. Perms use an organic system that is ammonia and thioglycolate free. Prices start at $22 for fringe and neck trims and $35 for a toner add-on, and the salon notes that prices can change without notice.

Visits are by appointment only. New clients are accepted on a limited basis. Existing clients usually book two to eight weeks ahead, and same-day or same-week openings are not offered. To book, text 480-234-4134, since the salon prefers texts to calls and voicemails. First-time clients pay a non-refundable deposit by text link: $45 for cutting services and $75 for color, applied to the cost of the visit. Lightening and micro-highlights need a $100 deposit. Clients are asked to bring their own water, and filtered water is offered on request. Retail items are final sale. A client who is unhappy with a service can call within one week for a free adjustment, though refunds are not given and changes of mind are not covered.

Beyond the chair, the salon hosts rotating art exhibits by local artists and provides free hair and makeup work and photo shoots for local designers and artists. It donates services to local charities and sells handmade goods from local vendors on consignment. Waste is largely recycled or composted, marketing is printed on recycled paper, and no plastic or paper shopping bags are used. According to the salon, EcoHeads shampoo novels cut water use at the shampoo bowl by 65%. The salon also lists a 2018 City of Phoenix Green Business Leader award, 2012 Natural Awakenings honors for Green Business of the Year and Green Salon of the Year, a 2012 spot in Be! Magazine's Top 40 Salons in Arizona, and a 2010 Best Salon nomination from the Phoenix New Times.

Focused on creative, healthy hair services, with product lines that have fewer smells and chemicals and that avoid ammonia, lye, thioglycolate and formaldehyde where possible. It does not claim to be fragrance-free; scented products are chosen when their fragrances are listed and they are milder.

The salon describes itself as a judgment-free space open to everyone, with indoor plants and air purifiers.
