About

Health Matters was founded by Phil and Jane Wazny and opened in Scottsdale in 2012. The practice aims to be integrative, drawing on a wide range of traditional and alternative treatments it considers safe and effective. It treats the whole person and works to find the root cause of illness, guided by core values of respect, connection, empathy, positivity and teamwork. The practice says its preventive approach makes it the best primary care provider, a claim it makes about itself.

Adults and children can join the concierge family medicine model, which includes unlimited in-office and telemedicine appointments, usually available the same or next day. Members can reach Dr. Wazny by cell phone or text around the clock. Phone consultations are handled the same as in-office visits, and the treatment plan is emailed at the end of the visit.

Health Matters provides adult primary care for hormone imbalances, thyroid disorders, digestive complaints, weight management, low energy, pain, allergies, weakened immunity, diabetes and blood sugar problems, heart disease and autoimmune conditions. Pediatric care covers patients from birth through late adolescence, offering well-child visits, nutrition assessments, vaccine consultations with individualized schedules, same-day sick visits, and treatment for ADHD, allergies, behavioral health concerns, GI problems and PANDAS. Services also include in-office lab testing, on-site blood draws, specialty lab testing, imaging orders, and prescriptions sent electronically to the patient's chosen pharmacy.

IV therapy formulas are customized by Dr. Wazny and contain at least ten vitamins and nutrients. IVs are given by IV-trained specialists under the physician's oversight. Other treatments include a glutathione-based liver support IV, a specialty procedure to increase red blood cell density when needed, prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma therapy, and Kenalog injections given once or twice a year depending on allergy severity, which the practice says can give relief for up to six months.

The practice does not process insurance or Medicare but provides paperwork for patients to file with their insurer, and some patients are reimbursed through out-of-network benefits. Sonora Quest or LabCorp bill insurers directly for lab work, which cannot be billed to Medicare. Patients without insurance, or who prefer not to use it, can get discounted lab fees. New patient initial consultations with Dr. Wazny are typically 60 minutes, follow-ups are up to 30 minutes, and prolotherapy and PRP visits are 30 minutes. Adult and pediatric intake, informed consent and records release forms can be completed online. Established patients can use a patient portal to view lab results, appointments, medications and diagnoses, and to message the practice. The practice has also made financial and in-kind donations to charities including Make A Wish, Arizona Humane Society and Kids Cancer Foundation.

Takes a whole-person, preventive approach that looks for the root cause of illness and combines traditional and alternative treatments.
