Hairstories is a hair salon in Babylon, New York, built around training its own stylists. Rather than hiring people who are already fully trained, the salon develops them through an in-house education program, and stylists move up through levels to more advanced services.

Clients can book regular appointments from the full service menu with a preferred stylist. Training appointments with developing stylists are also available at preferred pricing, which is applied automatically. These are limited and offered on select days. The stylist leads the service, and an educator may be consulted when helpful.

Booking is done online, up to 45 days ahead. The card on file is authorized when the appointment is confirmed but not charged. A gratuity can be added at booking as an optional 15%, 20%, 25% or a custom percentage. The online booking tool can suggest services based on photos of current hair and an inspiration image, and clients can also send inspiration photos, with staff following up by text.

For extensions, the salon uses a hand tied method that it describes as proprietary to the salon. A consultation covers method, color match, upkeep and fit. Preferred hair vendors are Hair Compounds and Philocally, and hair cost is charged separately.

Develops its own stylists in-house through an education program and level progression, rather than hiring fully trained professionals.
