Hair by Jules operates under the name Nightcrawler Studio, a collective salon space where self-employed stylists work together at 5765 Main Street in Elkridge. The salon is woman-owned and describes itself as LGBTQIA+ friendly and as a safe space where hair has no gender. Jules owns the salon and works alongside Kayla, Skye, Skylar and Jazele.

The salon takes a relaxed, alternative approach, and clients are welcome to come as they are. Its core work is creative color and chemical services, along with cuts and lighter refresh and maintenance appointments. Clipper cuts start at $30, thick hair cuts start at $50, and a Malibu treatment ($25) or Leaf and Flower treatment ($30) can be added on.

New clients begin with the inquiry form on the home page, then email current hair photos and inspiration or goal photos to the salon. Replies can take up to seven business days. Returning clients book online, and clients booking with Kayla, Skye, Skylar or Jazele use those stylists' personal booking links on the About page. Chemical services are priced as packages that include a haircut and styling, and listed prices are starting prices for fine to medium shoulder-length hair or longer. Final cost depends on hair length, thickness and starting level, and color corrections can start at any package price. Extensions are booked by consultation only and take an hour or more, and a free 15-minute consultation covers extensions and test strands.

Standard services such as basic haircuts, single process root retouches and standard highlights remain available to returning clients. New clients who ask for these are forwarded to Kayla or Jazele, unless a current loyal client refers them. Clients should notify the salon when running late. Arriving more than 10 minutes late without notice, or more than 15 minutes late at all, may mean the appointment cannot be kept and must be rebooked with late fees and a deposit. Cancellations need 24 to 48 hours notice; shorter notice carries a cancellation fee plus a 50% non-refundable deposit to rebook, and a no-show requires the missed total plus that deposit. Guests are not permitted at appointments, including children, and children come into the salon only when they are being serviced. Park in the designated spots to the right of the salon, or use the free lot at the end of the street, rather than parking on the street.

Care advice is part of the service. The salon recommends sulfate- and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner, washing as little as possible (ideally once a week) with cool water, a heat protectant, and styling at 350 degrees or below. It also advises avoiding prolonged sun and chlorinated or salt water, since frequent washing, hot water, heat, sun, salt and chlorine all fade color faster. Color is guaranteed only when the suggested home routine and products are used, and product guarantees apply only to products bought from the salon, a salon professional or an affiliate link. Bleach-out clients should return every 6 to 8 weeks for root retouch, because longer regrowth can lift unevenly and band.
