Hair By Damian was opened in September 1992 by founders Damian Ruyechan and Tim Komen, who set out to open a boutique-style salon in Pittsburgh. The salon describes itself as one of the first boutique-style salons in the city and says luxury service is standard and individuality is celebrated.

The salon aims for every client to leave feeling relaxed, comfortable and confident. The setting is tranquil, and clients can enjoy a cup of coffee and fashion magazines during their visit. Custom service requests are available on request.

Services are grouped into cut and styling, color, extensions, lashes, makeup and waxing. The salon offers women's, men's and children's cuts, plus treatments such as keratin smoothing, permanent waves and re-texturizing, and color work that includes balayage. For use at home, the salon sells haircare from R+CO, Kérastase and Oribe, including shampoos and conditioners, styling products and oil and serum treatments. An apothecary section carries handmade jewelry, styling tools, hair accessories, skin care, and body and lip products. Styling tools are offered for a range of hair types, from curly to straight and thick to thin.
