About

Freecoat started in Mt. Pleasant and later opened locations in the Charlotte area. Laura and Doug Stout learned about the concept and brought it to Greenville, where Laura runs the salon with Doug as business partner. Laura grew up in Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School. Before opening freecoat she taught elementary school and worked on the staff of First Baptist Greenville. Doug keeps his own franchise coaching business running while helping with freecoat. The salon describes itself as Greenville's non-toxic nail salon.

The salon's approach is to avoid toxins, fumes and jets. Greenville is fume-free and uses medical grade air filtration, according to the salon, and every location has hospital grade ventilation that pulls fumes out and circulates the air. Manicure tables are custom-built and vented, pedicure tubs are jet-free, and bowls are double disinfected after each use. Each service comes with a free organic sugar scrub made in house. Visits are mainly by appointment, booked online or in person, and the salons are fully accessible with accommodations available on request.

Services are grouped into fun add-ons, nail services, packages, and waxing and tinting. The nail menu offers regular, gel and Dazzle Dry polish, with options such as a warm coconut mask treatment, an Epsom salt footbath, a CBD and Mazz Hanna fizzy bath, and basic or advanced nail art. Three-service packages save 10% on favorite services. The salon does not offer or remove acrylic, SNS, dip powder or nail extensions made with those materials, and guests with those on their nails are turned away.

Booking has a few firm rules. Cancellations or changes need at least 24 hours notice, a valid credit card must be kept on file to hold an appointment, and guests are asked to arrive 5 minutes early. Packages expire 6 months from purchase and can only be used at the location where they were bought. Gift cards can only be redeemed where they were purchased. Groups of three or more can request a group booking, with a unique name, email and phone number for each guest, except minors.

The salon avoids toxins, fumes and jets and uses non-toxic products throughout its services. Tools are cleaned by hand, soaked, sealed and run through an autoclave after every guest, using a double sanitation method.

A boutique, mid-sized space that feels roomy enough for groups yet cozy.
